Chef Sara Moulton of 'Sara's Weeknight Meals' Celebrates Food and Wine with Rhode Island PBS

On Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 7 p.m., Rhode Island PBS hosts its 15th annual food and wine tasting event, An Evening Uncorked! Chefs from 14 popular and award-winning area restaurants prepare gourmet small bites. Wine tasting is courtesy of top local purveyors and private wine cellars.

A feast for all the senses, An Evening Uncorked!will fill the spacious Pawtucket Armory with aromas, colors, sounds, and tastes of an appetizing "foodie" adventure, with wine tasting for the novice, the enthusiast, and the connoisseur. Where else can one sample foods from these great chefs all under one roof?

This year's small bites will be prepared by returning participants, including chefs from The Capital Grille, Chapel Grille, David Burke Prime Steakhouse, The Dorrance, Eleven Forty Nine Restaurant, Just Ellen's Inc., Luigi's Restaurant and Gourmet Express, Matunuck Oyster Bar, and Pot Au Feu. Guests can also enjoy delectable samples from this year's newest contributors, Bluefin Grille, the Coast Guard House, and Red Fez, with desserts by Corner Bakery Café and The Inside Scoop. Vegetarian and gluten-free food options will be available.

Wine tasting showcases domestic and international vintages presented by M.S. Walker, Rhode Island Distributing Company, Martignetti Companies of Rhode Island, as well as carefully chosen bottles from private cellars. Craft beers are courtesy of Foolproof Brewing.

Rhode Island PBS is pleased to welcome celebrity guest Chef Sara Moulton of Sara's Weeknight Meals. A protégé of Julia Child and the founder of the New York Women's Culinary Alliance, Sara is a nationally recognized chef who has made her mark as executive chef of Gourmet magazine, food editor of ABC-TV's Good Morning America, and the author of several top-selling cookbooks. In October of 2015, Sara kicked off her fifth season as host of public television's, Sara's Weeknight Meals, the latest milestone in her storied career of teaching and cooking that spans more than 30 years.

Sara will be available to meet and greet guests and sign her latest cookbook - just released in March - Sara Moulton's Home Cooking 101: How to Make Everything Taste Better. The cookbook can be reserved in advance or purchased at the event.

Silent auction tables will be open during the food and wine tasting. Items for bid include local "wine and dine" winery tours paired with dining certificates, a country club golf outing, dinner and theater tickets, exclusive VIP Pass to the Rhode Island International Film Festival, fitness and spa treatments, locally crafted jewelry, beauty treatments and products, art, and more.

A Wine Grab will feature 50 bottles of wine concealed in decorated bags. Bags are $50 each, and contain a wine valued at least $15 plus a $20 gift card to Pane e Vino Ristorante e Enoteca on Federal Hill, Providence. Among the 50 bottles of wine available, two of the bottles are worth $100 each.

The evening culminates with lively bidding in a Live Auction of boutique and cult wines, as well as novel fine dining and travel experiences. Among live auction items are a two-night stay at Ocean House resort in Watch Hill, Westerly; framed team jersey autographed by New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady; roundtrip domestic air fare for two courtesy of Jet Blue plus Napa Valley winery tour and tasting; cocktail party for 20 at Candita Clayton Art Gallery; and a dinner party for 8 with wine pairings from Gasbarro's Wines private cellars.

Food + Wine + America's Test Kitchen = Fun!

Join us April 12 at 7 p.m. for An Evening Uncorked!
Meet and mingle with America's Test Kitchen chefs Bridget Lancaster and Julia Collin Davison. We're so excited to have Bridget and Julia as our special guests! Many of you tell us that America's Test Kitchen is one of your favorite shows, so here's a great chance to meet two of the show's chefs.

We also invite you raise a glass to Susan L. Farmer, WSBE general manager and president for 17 years. Susan's devotion to public television and Rhode Island PBS in particular is as legendary as her strand of pearls.

Of course, the evening revolves around the food and beverage stations that ring the spacious Pawtucket Armory Drill Hall (172 Exchange Street, in downtown Pawtucket, RI, near Pawtucket City Hall).

Chefs from 17 top food establishments will prepare small bites just for this event. Between the food stations, carefully chosen wines from leading domestic and international vineyards as well as private cellars will be poured for tasting. Two local craft breweries will also present their beers.

Truly a feast for all the senses, An Evening Uncorked! is a riot of colors, textures, aromas, flavors, and sounds, and wines to please the novice, the enthusiast, and the connoissuer. Where else can "foodies" savor dishes by all of these chefs and beverage purveyors under one roof?

The fun and frolic doesn't stop with food, wine, and public television celebrities. No, celebrities of the cartoon persuasion will also make an appearance - Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat will be walking around, too.

Don't miss the Smashing Photos booth to capture your fun time.

And tap your toes to the tunes of the Original Jelly Roll Soul.

The evening culminates in a lively live auction of select boutique and collectable wines, gifts, and novel dining and travel experiences. Silent auction will be open during the food and wine tasting.

Tickets to An Evening Uncorked! are a bargain at $85 per person and must be purchased in advance. Proceeds benefit WSBE Rhode Island PBS, to support excellent local television content.

"So, what's on the menu?" you ask...

I just received the preliminary menu for the upcoming  An Evening Uncorked. I am so glad I already bought my ticket! Read more here about this February 6th event, to be held in The Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park.

OK - it's lunch time as I write this; I shouldn't tantalize you with talk of delicious food from some of RI's finest restaurants, and not spill the beans (ouch, bad pun), so I'll announce the menu.

These are the dishes our guest restaurants will be preparing for you. Each will be paired with just the right wines, courtesy of MS Walker.

(I will not be held responsible for your stomach growling or your mouth watering as you read on! Consider yourself forewarned.)

The collectible wines up for auction are also pretty amazing. The food editor at the statewide newspaper wrote a nice article about the wines, and includes a great photo of the bottles.
(Side note: where ever you see references to "Channel 36" in the story, don't worry, it means us - WSBE Rhode Island PBS. "Channel 36" was our old name before we changed it back in 2003.)

Perfect Pairings: Great Food & Fine Wine in a Lush Tropical Garden

I don't know about you, but after this latest streak of snow, frigid temperatures, and biting cold wind, a tropical getaway to warmer surroundings sounds pretty inviting. On February 6, you can get away to the tropics – without ever leaving Rhode Island!

That's the bonus of attending this year's An Evening Uncorked, the annual food and wine event to benefit WSBE Rhode Island PBS. This year's gala will be held in New England's largest indoor garden, the Botanical Center at Roger Williams Park, on Saturday, February 6 at 7 P.M.

Amid lush exotic flowers and trees, chefs from 10 of Rhode Island’s top restaurants will prepare tasting-sized portions of dishes that will be paired with just the right wine to complement the flavors. Participating restaurants are 1149, 3 Steeple Street, Blaze, Capital Grille, Gracie's, Haruki, New Rivers, Nick’s on Broadway, Pot Au Feu, and Trio. MS Walker will provide the wines.

An Evening Uncorked will also feature live and silent auctions of highly collectible wines. The fundraiser is co-chaired by Aldo Cipriano, Gary Light, and Greg Mitrakas.

Tickets to An Evening Uncorked are $100 per person and must be purchased in advance. Call 401-222-3636, x327, or visit our Web site. The popular event has sold out in past years, so get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Since alcohol is served, this event is open to adults 21 years of age or older only. Cocktail attire is appropriate. (I plan to wear pretty shoes - not practical snow boots. Hope the weather cooperates with my plan.)

An Evening Uncorked is underwritten by Gencorp Insurance Group, and Adler Pollock and Sheehan, PC. All proceeds benefit WSBE Rhode Island PBS.
